Carl G. Wellman

Carl G. Wellman, 88, Harvard, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Mercy Harvard Care Center.

He was born Sept. 13, 1925, in West Point, Iowa, to Henry and Bertha (Wiggenjost) Wellman.

On Oct. 25, 1952, he married Winnifred “Winnie” Walsh in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

In earlier years he farmed in Iowa and Canada. For many years he worked as an electrician for Illinois Bell in Chicago.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. He was a member of the Woodstock VFW, the Harvard Grange and the Antique Outboard Motor Club. He had a large collection of antique outboard motors and also was well-known for his hat collection. He enjoyed attending thresheree events such as the Rock River Thresheree in Edgerton, Wis.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Lynn (Tim) O’Brien, Edgerton, Wis.; three grandchildren, Megan, Colleen and Kevin O’Brien; a brother, James (Mary) Wellman, West Point; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Marian Woolford, Lucille Schumaker and Irene Wellman, and Clara Wellman in infancy.

Visitation was Aug. 28 at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home. The funeral Mass was Aug. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harvard. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
