Chamber expo set to return

After a year off, the Harvard Chamber of Commerce & Industry will hold its Business Showcase & Indoor Garage Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at Crosby Elementary School, 401 Hereley Drive.

“We thought we would hold it off for a year to allow the members a year off and to see if we could get more attendance by doing it every other year instead of doing it every year,” said Chamber Director Crystal Musgrove of last year’s hiatus.

The expo will return to Crosby Elementary, a favorite of Musgrove’s, for the third time.

“Crosby is hands down the best school for this,” said Musgrove, who noted when the event was at the high school everyone was spread out throughout the building. “At Crosby, we have a great setup. We have the cafeteria right there [for the indoor garage sale]. Nonprofit businesses can be in the gym with [the for-profit businesses].”

Planned this year are performances by the Harvard High School band, the Harvard Junior High School band and the Dance Factory. Harvard Community Radio will broadcast from the event.

Prodige Processing Inc. will hold an electronics recycling event, and Helping Paws will attend for possible animal adoptions. “I think it’s important we [hold the event],” Musgrove said. “Whether or not the Chamber makes money off the expo, I think we have an obligation to be able to have a place for our members to demonstrate their services or products outside of their businesses or outside of their homes.”

Musgrove noted the expo allows businesses without storefronts or not located in Harvard to demonstrate their products or services.

“People are excited to come here and have one place for a one-stop shop,” Musgrove said.

Admission is $1, or 50 cents and a canned good that will be donated to the food pantry. Money raised goes to the Chamber scholarship program.

A business mixer will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 13.
