Elroy H. Becker

Elroy H. Becker, 88, Harvard, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Northwood Care Center in Belvidere.

He was born March 6, 1926, in Athens, Wis., to Paul and Anna (Fuss) Becker.

He married Darlene Stevens, and they had five children. During their marriage he worked on the Ira Thompson farm north of Poplar Grove. After retiring from farming, he worked in carpentry for all his friends in the area.

He looked forward to having family over for Sunday dinners. He enjoyed fishing and building things with his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for gardening and a love for music, and he was known to be light on his feet.

Survivors include his children, Roy (Linda) Becker, Roscoe, Harvey (Dorothy) Becker, Kitchener, Canada, Audrey (Thomas) Haynie, Tucson, Ariz., and Kay (Gary) Rath, Marengo; 16 grandchildren; many great- and great-great grandchildren; and two half-sisters, Arlene (Becker) Kohley and MaryAnn (Gunner) Rasmussen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steve Becker; a brother, Harold Becker; two sisters, his twin Elda and Elmyra Garbrecht; two grandchildren, Brandon and Ember; two great-grandchildren; three step-brothers, Herbert, Arthur and Erwin Becker; and a step-sister, Ruth McCollugh.

Per his wishes, there was no formal funeral. A memorial gathering was held Feb. 28 at the Grove Bar & Grill, Poplar Grove.
