Hazel V. Ostrum

Hazel V. Ostrum, 89, Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Harvard, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at Hospice of the Valley in Glendale.

She was born Jan. 27, 1926, to William D. and Gladys T. (Artz) Meckley in Woodstock.

On Jan. 1, 1946, she married Russell E. Ostrum in Harvard.

She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and sewing, and in her younger years she loved to roller skate. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was part of the Women’s Circle.

Survivors include three children, Rosalie Coulter, Phoenix, Ruth Kunkel, Belvidere, and Rex Ostrum, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edward Meckley, Texas, Richard Meckley, Oreana, and Roger Meckley, Janesville, Wis.; a sister, Beverly Jane Maher, Freeport; and two sisters-in-law, Florence Rygh, Harvard, and Violet Blankenship, Seymour, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Nov. 22, 2001; and five siblings, Dorthey Crum, George Meckley, Robert Meckley, Lorraine Bird and William Meckley.

Visitation was Feb. 11 at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home, Harvard. The funeral was Feb. 12 at the funeral home. The Rev. Carol Gates officiated. Interment was in Dunham-Chemung Cemetery.
