Jerome ‘Jerry’ Wesenick

Jerome “Jerry” Wesenick, 75, Wausau, Wis., died Monday, June 2, 2014, at Mount View Care Center, Wausau.

He was born Oct. 17, 1938, in Merrill to Raphel and Alice (Behling) Wesnick.

He was raised on his family farm and met his future wife early in life. He proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1961 to 1965.

In October 1967, he and Mary Lou Koch were married.

The couple raced horses (trotters and pacers) throughout the Midwest. He also drove a truck for Mortenson and Stone Lumber from the mid 1960s until 1983 and later in Illinois for the Delong Company hauling fertilizer and feed. In later years, he and his wife worked together as park hosts in state and national parks and most notably at Washington Island Park.

The couple enjoyed deer hunting and fishing together. They also enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas for many years. He was a proud member of the Marathon County Agricultural Society, the U.S. Trotter Association, past member of the Northern Illinois Colt Association and the Wausau Boot and Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Joan (Jim) Farr, Green Bay, Wis.; two nieces, Susan (Kevin) Marcott and Lynette (Rob) Timler; a nephew, Scott (Kathleen) Farr; two great-nieces; four great-nephews; their adopted family, Donald and Carolyn Nolen and their children, Megan, Collin and Justin; dear friends, Dale and Patti Klinger; special cousins, Gordon and Marie Osborne; and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eugene Wesenick.

Visitation was June 6 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. The funeral was June 7 at the funeral home with the Rev. James Arthur officiating. VFW Post 388 confered military honors following the service at the funeral home.
