Seymour Richard Reese

Seymour Richard Reese, 88, Harvard, died peacefully Sept. 5, 2014, at his home.

He was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Harvard to John and Edna (Pockrandt) Reese.

He married Byrdena “Arlene” Blood April 6, 1946, in Lake Geneva, Wis. She died suddenly Jan. 31, 1975.

In April 1983, he and his companion Anna Markee began a relationship that lasted the rest of his life.

He had a lifelong passion for farming and worked on various farms until he began farming on his own in 1952. In 1960 he retired from full-time farming but continued to raise beef cattle and various crops while working at various manufacturing jobs. His last job was with Vaughn & Bushnell, which is where he met Anna.

His wisdom, sense of humor and love of a good joke and his strong personal values will be missed by his loved ones, as will his harmonica playing ability that he enjoyed sharing with others. Survivors include Anna Markee, Harvard; four children, Carolyn (Bruce) Toussaint, Larry (Diane) Reese, Bonnie (Eric) Erickson and Connie (Jon) Hunsbusher; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; five sisters, Alice Brennecka, Grace Lehman, Gladys Grashel and Gertrude (Bill) Walter, all of Harvard, and Nancy Firn, Morris; a brother, Paul (Roney) Reese, Harris, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Reese, North Branch, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; three sisters, Bertha Peterson, Dorothy Sternberg and Elsie Dacy; and three brothers, Herman Reese, Lester Reese and Raymond Reese.

Visitation and the funeral were Sept. 11 at Saunders & McFarlin Funeral Home. Interment was at Big Foot Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Jeff Borgerson officiated.
